September 8, 201114 yr Okay guys, I have re-created my website (twice now) since I last posted. The first one I made I thought was a better attempt but still had lots to do so I scrapped it and tried once more. I'm personally more happy with my second re-attempt, but I would like to have some feedback on the site. I know my wording could be made better as a whole but I am working on that as it had been written quickly and wasn't well thought out. I personally feel my colours are better and the design is more clear, but I feel more could be added to it. Let me know what you guys think. Just so you know I am both excited and nervous about what you guys have to say and remember you can be as brutal as you like just as long as you have constructive criticism. http://www.checkeredmichael.com/
September 8, 201114 yr Nothing seems to fit, everything is floating not knowing where it should sit on the page no real continuity apart from the colours and I'm not the biggest fan on those either. You either need a more punchier yellow or green or add a dark brown to bring the other colours out. Edited September 8, 201114 yr by pandadoodle
September 8, 201114 yr I agree with PandaDoodle. It seems to lack structure. Why not make everything the same width? Make the header and footer the same width as the main content section. Group all of your social media elements together. You have some in the footer, some in the sidebar. I would also make the checked background fill the entire header, it will make it stand out more. Main things to work on are structure, alignment and spacing.
September 8, 201114 yr Measure is too long for comfort at 1680px. I'd suggest a sans body font would be better suited to the design. Some padding issues, especially with the sidebar and contact form. Try working to a grid. I'd also suggest dropping the "Freelance" to the second line and reducing the font size, it makes more sense as a separate subheading. Could you show what it looks like at 1680px, I have a very small screen and would like to know what it looks like on larger sized screens. I'll work on my padding and font types. How can I work to a grid, I think I've seen a program which allows you to view in a grid form to get everything perfectly aligned. I use Chrome for browser and Aptana for my web development. With the nav I did purposely make it overlap the content box, I will make the header and footer the same size as my content box. For my colour scheme I do quite like it, but I also agree that it could be changed to make it a bit better. What sort of greens would you suggest, should they be more of a darker colour? Thanks for the feedback, and please keep it coming. Edited September 8, 201114 yr by CheckeredMichael Design
