I would recommend starting with a navigation bar, as this is the main center of nearly every website. This tutorial from w3schools gives a basic overview, but as @MikeChipShop mentioned:

 

CSS3 is the current version.

So you should be looking to improve your skills in that too. When you improve a little, I have a video tutorial series on YouTube showing you how to create a CSS3 ribbon-style navigation bar, and you can find that here.
