Help with wordpress site

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I've been working on a wordpress site, added all the pages I need etc. I downloaded a theme but had a bit of a nightmare using it.

Basically I just need to add some images to a slider and add a logo, just get it all looking nice.

I've got all the designs done etc, just need to get them on the site. I know how i want it to look.

Anyone out there fancy helping out a newbie? It's slowly starting to send me crazy!

Thanks

Ian

yea cool,

I'm currently using the standard theme, the site is http://www.londoncityfitness.com

I was trying to use this theme http://themeforest.net/item/explicit-business-blog-portfolio-wp-theme/113495

I ran into problems as it didnt have a drop down menu and I couldnt figure out how to upload my images and logo.

I was aiming for a look like this http://thepursuitoffitness.com/

If anyone could be of help it would really be appreciated as i'm pulling my hair out over here! haha

My aim after this site is to learn how to do everything myself!

Thanks

Yeah I mentioned earlier I'm just using the standard theme at the moment as the explicit theme made it look really messy. The menu looked awful.

Have changed the theme now, as you can see the menu is a right state. The slider is also there, no idea how to put images into, there doesnt seem to be an option in the dashboard!

The menu is in a state because you haven't set up your menu properly. Go to appearance > menus. Create a menu and assign it to the top menu or whatever the theme calls it. If you have too many items, then create sub menus. To do this, when you have all your menu items in a long list, find the menu item you want to be parent, then you drag other menu items underneath it but to the right. They will then nest under the parent in a sub menu.

I've attached a screenshot showing you how & the end result.

Hi mike,

I had the menu perfect on the other theme, they are all set to parent menu etc but when i switched to this theme it cocked up.

Think about what I have just said. You need to re-setup menus when you change themes because different themes handle menus differently. If they so much as give them different names, you will have to do them again...

Thanks Mike, to be honest i'm not looking to do it myself. Was offering it out for a quick job for someone.

If anyone fancies it message me with a price.

It's taken nearly a year so far haha, and even if i did the menu I have no idea how to get the images in the slider. I've given up all hope!

well to be honest I havnt touched it for about 6 months, someone was supposed to do it for me and let me down.

I just noticed your screenshot and it makes sense, I can do the menu now, thanks mate.

Still struggling with the images and logo though. Any ideas?

Also your music site is cool, I was thinking about doing something similar as I dj, used to do radio shows and ran a record label. Was thinking about doing a weekly podcast.

Right so thats the menu done, if anyone has any idea how to delete all the dummy text on home page, add images and logo and add a couple twitter feed and fb page in the footer I think I'm nearly home and dry.

The reason I can't delete the dummy text is there does not seem to be a home page when I go to my list of pages....any idea why?

I'm not sure I can help you with the text, it depends on the theme.

However, I would imagine it's possible the Theme has it's own Options panel and you change it via that. So look on your admin menu and see if you can find it.

Edit: That's cool about the DJ'ing, I've done it briefly too. If you ever do a podcast feel free to message me, maybe I could put it up or something.

Cool, will do...

Right i went to edit themes and there's a stylesheet (style.css) I imagine it has something to do with this? I could be wrong though.

If anyone fancies logging in and having a look round to sort this mess out I'd appreciate it, and I'll buy you a drink for your troubles!

Thanks
