Hello everyone,

 

I've redesigned a friends (help) gaming website, it's for the game series Call of Duty. With that said, it should have a game, army and friendly feel to it. How has it worked out?

Id go back to the dev stage and look around military sites, textures, photos etc and start over. I wouldn't have guessed it was about COD or anything military from the look of it or that it has anything to do with games!

 

There are so many camouflage options as well id have gone and done something fun with it! Hide things and so on

I've already designed one that had camouflage and used it for a few months. But a few people complained that they didn't like the camouflage idea so this time I tried to stay away from it. What would you suggest I do to help improve it but not go all camouflage?

I'd agree with Panda, the obvious solution is grungey camouflagey stuff. I'd say the 2nd option is a kind of high tech feel if you don't want to go down the camfoulagey route. But again as Panda says, you won't achieve the desired effect of it being obviously about COD.

 

How can people complain that it's camouflagey when it's call of duty? Would have seemed that was the obvious idea of it?

 

How about other war related stuff like desert, sand, tanks, metal, just erm.... no camouflage apparently. You want to be sure that you don't base the design around what a couple of armchair designers deem "is best" from your group. They could for all you know be as good at designing as fish are at riding bikes.

I went for a dark camouflage background so it's not so loud (as the current design is), I also added some army men along the footer, and added a steel look to the side bar.

Mechjosh, the site looks nice but i must agree with pandoodle that it doesn't give any hint that one is looking at site related to gaming. Try giving it a military color background. Who knows that will kick out with the visitors rather than a camouflage? Best wishes for your site. and yeah, maybe replacing the images with tanks, grenades and stuff would help out just as Gibson said.

Did you review the revised mock-up?

I still thing the revised is missing something, if you search call of duty fan sites and so in google they all have some kind of header or reference point to the game
