My website position keeps jumping up and down between position 3 and 15 quiet frequently for the search terms web design doncaster. I don’t really have a back link strategy and my competitor’s do not seems to be doing any work on their site. Anyone got any explanation for this. Best I could think is that the google servers maybe out of sync? Any ideas?

Which Googleversion were you looking at... .com or .co.uk? The various servers may still be out of sync as you suggest, or you may have just caught it when Google is recalculating everything.

I test every time with google.com, and the resuls seem to change minute to minute I have never seen anything liek this before. I do alot of SEO. Typical it goes crazy with my own website.

I suppose the main point is are people finding you and visiting your site? And are you getting lots of enquiries once they are there?

not really probally for a few reasons.

 

A site didnt get to page 1 for them terms today. I had the wrong email address on there and only just reliased. I work all way through day so can never take any calls.

 

They site should be optimised for .co.uk not .com but someone already beat me to .co.uk.

 

I keep meaning to setup phone divert to my mobile but forget.

Google has been running A/B testing on various search terms for the last week which is causing a lot of flux. Basically they're bumping various sites into the top5 to see how they perform and then putting them back down again. It should continue for another week or so, until then, now isnt a good time for positional benchmarking

It could be possible that Google is shedding its skin just like snake does.

 

Every month google copies data from old servers to new servers. This could be the reason behind fluctuation in rankings.

 

Do keep close watch for a month. I am sure it will fade away within 10-15 days.

If they were copying data from old servers to new servers, for a start then it would be an older algorithm that was being implented. Which categorically is not happening.

If they were copying data from new serves to old servers (perhaps thats what you meant) then positions would fluctuate once to reflect the new changes.

This has not been the case during the last two weeks, and I know for a fact that Google is running the tests mentioned above. (though I'm 90% sure they're coming to a close now)
