I have been studying web design for around 6 months now and i have recently started looking into Drupal (literally yesterday so excuse my ignorance at this point). From what i understand about it, at least on the videos that i have seen, you can add things like the ability for users to log into the site that you have made and add many other helpful things. The question i have is that if you use Drupal or other CMS's, as a web designer are you cheating at all and is it frowned upon within the web designer community?

 

Again all of my knowledge of Drupal is very low at the moment so again please excuse my ignorance.

you charge more for a site built around a CMS, its not cheating at all, its alot better to create a site around one aswell

Why is using a CMS better? Is it because of ease of use for instance? Im also suprised to read that you would charge more for a site built around a CMS, how is that so?

because a site with a cms, creates a controll pannel for the client to log in, so he/shee can edit his pages and posts safely. This stops a 10pound per hour charge for gettin the web developer to make the changes through all html/php files etc. thats why its more money for a cms because its easy for the client

 

if your going to start learning how to use a cms, choose wordpress. definately the easyest to learn, laods of plug ins for near enoguh everything... and best blogggin system.. its the one trust me!

CMS's serve many purposes:

 

1. Allows end users to publish and manage content

2. Allows non technically minded users to manage otherwise very complex sets of data

3. Allows you the design to build dynamic sites with little or no programming knowledge

4. Provides a common platform to expand site features as required

The best way to start with Drupal is to make a theme of your own. Or use an old html/css website and convert it to a Drupal template.
