December 16, 201015 yr Hello, i am creating a website at the moment for my mums jewellry business. Im looking for fairy images and some images to use as a background but im worried it will be copy righted. I have searched royality free images but you need to pay for them and ive also googled copyright free images but im not 100% I can use these and don't want to risk it. Any help? Thanks!
March 16, 201115 yr Good thing, keeping copyright in mind. As mentioned by Tom J, sxc.hu has some great images on there (and everything is absolutely free to use) but there is a LOT of crap on there. You often sift through pages of rejects to find one usable photo, depending on the search. You can often find images on DeviantArt that are free to use, but a good majority of them are not, so be careful there. Same goes with photo sharing sites. In general, it's safe to assume something is covered under a copyright unless it explicitly states otherwise, and even then you will want to read the license to make sure you can use it for your site. Some images are free for personal/blog use but not for commercial sites, etc. If you want good images you really should just invest in some pay-to-use images. iStockPhoto, Shutterstock, etc. have some good images for really low prices. Barring that, get a pen, tablet or camera out and make/take them yourself. Especially if it's something simple, it may be a good experience to learn to do it yourself. And besides, doing other artsy things like drawing, illustrating and photography are all great ways to develop your design brain.
