Who hosts their own site?

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone on this forum hosts their own website on their own servers / vps's.

We host our own sites - has worked out better for us when it comes down to support, security etc.

Not me. Trusty big-budget company look after the technical stuff for me. :)

We used to do the same but I hated not having control over things. As well as all these hosts seriously overselling.

I hate all that 'for PHP support you have to pay 1million pounds extra'.... and all it means is having a small program on the server! I dont think there are any 'good' deals out their - everything seems to cost a disproportionated amount extra from email addresses to asp.net. :angry3:

I got a Hostway VPS, most reliable VPS i've ever come across :)

I have a resellers account from Lonex (plug 2).

I pay £10/£11 a month (The dollar favours me :D) and can host as many websites as I want, all my sites, and the sites I have designed for others site there, unless the client requests to be separate in which case I get them a standard account from Lonex.

I don't have that many clients but am constantly setting up things like dotProject and coppermine for uni projects and family reunions etc. They last a few months so no need for a domain, and they all sit happily under my account. Because I have a reseller with unlimited emails/databases etc I can do as much as I want.

I love having the freedom and the tools, and its well worth £10 a month!

Just remember there is no such thing as unlimited.

Perhaps, but I haven't managed to find a limit yet :p

That sounds like a very good deal! I may have to check them out..... have you had any issues with them - downtime etc?
