Good evening guys,

 

I have never incorporated a CMS system for a client before as I have always built static websites for friends & don't do it as a full time job as it's more of a hobby than anything else but my next site is for a friend who is a DJ who wants a site he can maintain himself.

 

I am quite competent in HTML, CSS, Javascript & PHP. (So I'd like to think. Lol).

 

Now, the CMS I have adopted is Joomla mainly due to recommendations by other people & I would like to hear from you professional developers on how you go about designing a site from scratch that can also be used as a Joomla template.

 

Am I correct in saying that the design is done in Photoshop first & then put together as a CSS style sheet?

 

Any advice on this subject on creating a Joomla template would be appreciated as I've searched Hi & Low on the subject but I haven't found anything aimed at the complete CMS novice.

the first and second part is correct ou can design in photoshop then cut it into CSS/XHTML , after that try using their documentation on template tags , or try finding a e-book , there is tons of them on , how to create template for joomla , from beginner level to expert

Be careful when researching template building for Joomla. Joomla 1.6 is close to being ready for production sites and the way templates are built is going to different enough to make older templates break without some code changes.
