Where to start?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Im hoping some people can help me!

I really would like to start designing websites for other people and not just for myself!!! I have made websites to a good standard for about 2 years but none of them got much traffic.

The problem is i don't know where to start. I am 15 and am still at school but i would just like to develop websites in my spare time and in the long run get some money. So shall i promote myself as an individual or shall i join a team or join a small online web design company??

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Well as you are 15, i'd do nothing for now. Keep up the practice and your own sites, but legally, you don't want to start trading at 15.

Wait until you are 16 and have a NI number, then you should go and get yourself a job in your nearest big city as a junior designer/developer. Get some experience before going it alone

That is my advice, take it or leave it...

Create site dedicated to your school. Create site about some of your hobbies. Create your personal site - porrtfolio.

well care to post urls to your sites , so we can get a closer look? ;)

cheers

You should study and practice first and build your own portfolio :good:

I do need to build a portfolio! That seemes hard aha but i will make a start :) cheers for your help

For someone in your situation I would say to continue as you are right now, perhaps join some of the crowdsourcing websites, pick a project and develop a design based on the specs of that project, then add that design to your portfolio. You could even offer the design on gumtree etc to some startup. Then in a yr or 2 look for a junior job
