So I have been learning a lot the last 5-6 months already.

 

I already got skills in; HTML,CSS,XML and a little bit in php.

 

Now I started with Javascript and I stood stunned that there is still so much to learn.

(Even reading up for like 4 hours in a row, still like it)

 

I want also to learn asp, php and mysql. That'll be the place I stop mine knowledge.

 

Anyway I wonder how many years will it take to learn it all and that you are then an expert webdesign.

Theres not really a "time-frame" until you officially become an "expert". In a field such as this, what officially constitutes an "expert" anyway?; there is such a broad range of disciplines, I think most people would really only obtain something akin to "expert" status in a particular area - design, development, SEO etc. I'm not saying theres not people out there who aren't great at each of these aspects, but I'd imagine most people would only consider themselves an expert in one of them.

 

With regards to how long it would take? Practice, practice, practice my friend! The more websites you work on, the more you will learn, and the quicker you will absorb everything you need to know to progress in this field.

 

I am in a similar position to you, I have been at this for about 7 months now. I have come a LONG way in that time, but I have an even further distance to travel before I consider myself to be an expert in any aspect :-) So long as you enjoy yourself along the way, it doesn't matter how long it takes or even if you get to an "expert status".

I always feel like the more I learn, the more I need to know in order to actually use it - if that makes sense. Like learning anything in PHP you need to learn 5 more things to make it secure. 'tis a never-ending quest I tell thee

That's just the reason why I like of the webdesign.

There are so many diffferent of thing you can learn.

hmm interesting question, I've been at it for about 2 years now, I wouldn't consider myself an expert but certainly competent enough to build a web application. I think the best tip I can give you would be: don't bother learning bare JavaScript, only use JavaScript with JQuery, it's infinitely better!

 

Why do you want to learn web design? To start a business? Make money from marketing or just as a hobby?
