I've just been offered my first proper freelance project by a local pre-school, but I'm not sure how much to charge for it. I don't want to charge too much and scare them off because it would help me build my portfolio.

 

All they want is a simple, one-page website with general information and contact details on.

 

I was thinking I would offer to host it for £50 for a year, and the domain would be an extra £10 for 2 years. So, how much would you charge for the actual website?

I am not the best at pricing as i am still learning but going by some of the prices that i have seen on here i presume you would charge around £100 with a design and coding etc, possibly more if you are adding a contact form. However a lot of people will say charge by the hour but if its your first and you don't know how long it usually takes you and you end up charging for 5 hours at a set rate of say £25 you will go quite high, if it is just a one page site it is probably easier to charge for that page a set amount. That's my thought anyway, hope it helps!

It may be your first job but don't undersell yourself, make sure your making enough money for the time it will take to complete. I think around £100 is a fair amount for a one page site.

My hosting is with Peartree, and it's £30 for a year, and that's been mostly fine for me. But I usually forward the hosting details to my clients and then get them to pay for it themselves. Saves hassle, especially upon year end and payment chasing time. I'd rather just charge more for the site design itself and sell other services like seo and internet marketing. But at the end of the day, you should do what you feel your time is worth.

I'd say £100 is fair, and as you say yourself, it will be valuable for your portfolio.

I have a reseller account with Market Hosting which is £10 a month so I would be hosting it using this for them, so I would need the money to come directly to me. Ill have a think about it
