Feedback on my portfolio website

Hi

I am a freelance designer trying to get work in, let me know how I can better my portfolio so I can get more clients. Tell me what works and what doesn't work. Any help will do. www.bella-d-zines.co.za B)

Thanks

Overall I really like the design, it's clean, easy to use and shows off your work really well... which lets face it, is the whole point.

The bits I'm not keen on are the dog tag style image in the top left, the image is nice but it looks dirty and doesn't fit with the rest of the site. The only other thing is the text in the column on the right, it's laid out a bit wonky and would look better justified...in my opinion anyway :)

Hi,

I agree with the above. The dog tag logo is pretty cool, I just feel it contrasts too much with the clean feel of the rest of the site.

If possible, I would also recommend adding a bit of spacing to the text, its quite bunched up at the moment, and its ridiculous how much of an improvement just a bit of spacing can improve things.

Otherwise, I like it. Good job :clapping:

---edit---

Also, at the moment, the text underneath "who I am" is an image. I would recommend turning this into html text if possible; theres nothing in there that would suggest this wouldn't be possible (no fancy fonts or anything) and it might just help with your SEO.

Well done.

Some little remarks.

  1. Untidily cut out.
  2. Badges and text: mismatches of viewpoints (and light sources).
  3. Too shaply cut shadows` edges
  4. Inappropriate font (is out of overall style)
  5. It would be better to align the top of the text block to the top edge of the picture.
  6. I guess it is not bad idea to add a white space between grey border and green bar.
  7. Bottom edges of all four icons go out of green bar.
  8. I'd show that these words are links, menu items.

Hope that helps.

I love these funny creatures.

Your design looks good. Would you care to share if using photo shop really helps in creating a better web site in terms of design?

I would remove the 'ings' from web design'ing', graphic design'ing' multimedia(one word) design'ing', they shouldn't be there. Also, work out whether you want to use UK or US English. In your header text you use 'z' in specializing and conceptualization, but in your logo gallery you have used customi's'ed. There may be other grammar/spelling errors in there which need to be addressed.

Without proper tools like photoshop, is it still possible to make the website looks good?

I really want to know because I'm upset my design isn't good and am contemplating may be i have to learn photoshop after all.....tks.

I'm sure it is possible, yes, but you will be severely limited and at a distinct disadvantage to most other web designers. Its definately worth investing a bit of time picking up the basics of a piece of software such as Photoshop, or a free alternative like GIMP.

I was a bit skeptical about photoshop at first, but as soon as I got into it and started designing websites with it, I really haven't looked back.

Thanks for sharing your personal experience. I've got GIMP ...which is free :-) but then I really don't know how to use it...there's not much tutorials out there that teach you real skills on how to make your website attractive using the features inside...i just don't know how to use them.......
