New website design - Need Google to list new url

Featured Replies

Hey all,

Quick question.

I recently re-designed my website. However Google insists on keeping my root domain listed for the keywords I want to point to the relevant page. It not only causing it to sit lower as the root level is no longer as relevant its annoying! I unfortunately didn't know too much about seo when I did my last design, I have changed all backlinks to my site to the exact url of the page i want listed for those keywords but it just wont change!

Any ideas??

Thanks,

Stefan

One little tip. Set ya home page url to ./ or to http://www.prettyklicks.com/, dropping the index.php. This is all to do with canonicalisation (when I first heard of the term I thought it was called colonicalisation :blink: ).

I would also ensure you have 301 redirects going from your old pages to the new ones. Just add this code to your old pages:

<?php
// Permanent redirection
header("HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently");
header("Location: http://www.somacon.com/");
exit();
?>

This will alter Google's indexing to your new pages. This is especially important if the old pages had some Google page rank attached to them.

As cibgraphics pointed out, you should have a xml sitemap listing all your pages. If you have Google Webmaster Tools you can submit your sitemap to Google via that.

Have a look at http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/.

Changes that affect your rankings and position can take time to get back to where they were. So sometimes patience is all ya have!!

Hope this helps.

PS Site looks nice!

Sitemap has been submitted.

I changed it from index.php to ./

Are you suggesting i set up 301 redirect from index.php to web-design-glasgow.php then? Which doesnt make much sense logically. All I want is for Google to list prettyklicks.com/web-design-glasgow.php instead of just prettyklicks.com/ As the web-design-glasgow.php page is much more relevant and optimised. My page is falling from google.

I have submitted to some directories I will try find more. Also @dodi - Very nice work on pixery!

:)

Thanks for the replies!
