Hi all, I'm new!

 

I have recently designed my first full website for a hairdressing business using the upgraded version of the web designing software Webeden.

 

I was just wondering if you'd take a look at the website and tell me what you think. The paypal isn't all set up yet and may be a few other pages aren't but that's only because I'm waiting for information from the Salon.

You've obviously put a lot of work into it and it shows but before i can look further I implore, nay beg you , make one change - remove the piped music - regardless of the type used - it's a sure way to drive visitors (and potential paying customers) away.

That's very true. I allow about 10 sec to find an "off" button and then run away in disgust. Not aimed at you specifically, but *shudders* music on websites kills me.

Yeah I know - it wasn't my choice - the owner of the business the website has been designed for wanted it on!

 

Do you reckon I should just take it off or add on off button?

Take it off. If they query it strongly advise them that having it will deter/drive customers away. If they insist - then as a last resort have a very prominent off button. Ask then to imagine trying to buy something on a site and have that blearing all the time.

Thanks everyone, but site won't be finished for a while because of a break down with communications with the owner of the salon. Need info on his paypal account etc. but haven't got it yet even though I have repeatedly asked.

 

Anyway moved onto my next website for a party business called Sugar & Spice. Only just started but please tell me what you think:

I think you have a nice professional looking site there. My only criticism would be that (on my system at least) it took a very long time to load.

Is there any way you can make the site lighter?

Yes I noticed that too. I think it's to do with some of the huge file sizes of some of the pictures but I don't know how to decrease their file size. Can anyone help me out here?

The second site is nice, although the tabs don't sit on their baseline which looks odd.

 

The first site is ok but I think you need to get rid of some of the movement? Movement is to grab a user's attention, so using it on the logo is not good, cos everytime you start to read the page you get distracted. Also I would only ever have 1 moving element and therefore I'd also remove the scroller at the bottom (these sorts of ticker things are not so great anyhow).

 

That way you can keep the more useful motion which is the images on the left.

 

Other than that it is a very smart design.

A nice site, but I'm having the problem with download time. I've been on the page for over 1min now, and still not seen all the content. I've got a broadband connection

(unless there's supposed to be an empty column under Who Are We?)

You need to raise the contrast of the navigation tabs on the second site (Sugar and Spice). At the moment the white text on light pink plays havoc with the eyes.

 

I'm also unsure if you've deliberately left white-space underneath "Who Are We?", but it looks like text is meant to be displayed there, or something is missing.

Thanks, so it would look better if I put the white text on a darker pink on the navigation bar or should I change the text to black?

 

Plus, text is meant to go beneath the Who are we?, but I am waiting for the owner of the business to give me some information to put here.

Plus I have tried to reduce the file size of some of the pictures by cropping the parts of the images I don't need. Hope it makes it load quicker!

Pics are still rather slow to load. You're using an onlinesite builder aren't you so don't know what options you have - but why is the entire site in flash format? No wonder it's slow.

 

The pink text isn't contrasting enough with the white background - hard to see.

Yes I'm using the online webeden program, which uses flash for everything on the websites - i think!

 

Will change the pink text and navigation bar soon so that the text is easier to read. Anyone know how, using Webeden, I would be able to reduce the file format of uploaded images?
