Then you add some content or links after that original content, which for Google would seem unrelated (but not for visitors). Would this harm your position in those original Google SERPs?

May 7, 201313 yr You can use schema,org tags to explain google what is your content and how it is related. Than adding those extra elements and links will not harm. I have just seen there is a post about it in the general SEO forum. However I share you concerns that's why I don't have any "comments" or discussion section on my site.
