I read somewhere that duplicated content on a site can be frowned upon by search engines (not sure if this was just Google or all of them). This got me wondering about content duplicated across other linked sites.

 

To clarify: something I'm very interested in right now is linked data - say you have a site which you'd like to get all SEO'd and boost in the search engines, and it has a blog section. This is not stored in the site's database but pulled in from, say, your Wordpress account. So you end up with a blog on Wordpress linking to pages on your site in order to boost the rank, but the same blog entries appear on the site itself.

 

As this is a very likely scenario with the work I hope to be doing soon, is this likely to be penalised in some way & affect the site's ranking at all?

Forget all the myths about duplication, the reality is very simple. If a search engine comes across two pages with the same content it'll usually only list one of them, ignoring the other. So in your case your Wordpress blog would probably be listed as it's the original, or in some cases carries more "weight".

You are on a very serious topic. I would advise you not to post the same content on you site which you have posted on your blog. the main mistake is that you have liked the sites which have the same content. One of them is bound to be penalized. there is no doubt at all.

 

Rather i would advise you to let the content be on your blog and link some of keywords with proper title tag to your website and remove the same content from you website. The crux is that you need links and even the search engines do. SO apparently what's the use keeping the content on the site.
