Strange question from a potential client ...

Featured Replies

I've recently submitted a quote and before accepting the potential client has come back with the following question ...

"Could we have a concept visual for this site please to back up the quote?"

Now I don't know about others but I don't normally do something like this until my quote has been accepted, a holding deposit paid and a meeting has been had with said client to find out more of what they desire.

They've seen examples in my portfolio so it would seem a strange question to ask at this stage.

What do others think?

Say 'no'.

Seriously, it's up to you, but the examples in your portfolio show the kind of work you're doing. If they can't hire you based on that, then maybe they're not worth having as a client. Anyone requesting spec work is going to bring stress into your life when the project actually begins IMO, as they don't value the work designers do.

Oh I've already stated that doing a mock-up is all part and parcel of the design process etc. I don't normally come across this question and was wondering how common it is?

Like notbanksy above I would also say 'no' but to answer your question I am finding an increase in the number of times I am asked to submit a mockup as part of a quote. Clients just do not understand what is involved. Even projects on the work for hire forum here on WDF seemingly turn into create a mockup for me and I will choose who I like best. It really is frustrating and is definitely on the increase IMO.
