Website for a B&B

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

Im a looking into creating a website for a B&B.

The owner would like the ability to book online. Can anyone recommend a system that would be suitable and would be easy to skin? Or else if I had to create one could someone quote for what it would take

Sound

You'd probably need to supply more information. There's potentially a lot more to this than "the ability to book online". For example, I'd begin by assessing if they already have a booking system with which it should be integrated, or is a such a system desired (and in what format)? Or if that's not the case, how they want to receive bookings through. Also, should the system work out rooms to assign, how does it know if there are rooms free for the desired dates etc. Are there different rates for different rooms, or discounts on advanced bookings? Those are just the starting points.

This can really be as simple or as complex as it needs to be! Without those details, impossible to provide any indication of the duration or cost of such a project (and I'm afraid I can't suggest anything "out of the box" as this sounds quite specialised - unless it's just a contact form or "shopping cart" you're after, of which there are thousands around!)

Feel free to PM me if you have more details and want to discuss it further though. I'm a Web developer and multi-platform programmer (desktop and server, Windows and Linux) and this does sound interesting :)

Excellent.

The only info I have at the moment is that they possibly want to be able to take bookings online so wanted to prepare myself before, knowledge is power and all that :D.

Ideally I wont be providing any booking functionality but thought I might ask here to get a heads up.

Thanks for your response too, much appreciated

unless it's a huge b&b i think the best thing is to book by phone.

how do you stop people trying to book at the same time?

what if they have questions to ask? i'm just thinking that this is going to be a sledgehammer to crack a nut ... and i doubt they have the budget for a booking system ;)

Haha, yeah, I'm only concerned with the design but thought I might be able to provide some info in relation to bookings.

Thanks for all the help thus far, appreciated :D

The other option you could use is to link their database bookings to the site and have an availability page something like this.

avail.png

That way they have a “quick” visual idea if its worth going any further if a certain date is needed.

You could change the blocks of colour/available to how many rooms/places are left? Just another idea that may turn out to be a little easier.

Don’t know if the ideas any good ??
