Help with CMS decision

Hoping someone out there can help with this one...

We use MODx and love it - it hasn't come up short, until now. We're pitching for a project and MODx can do 99% of what they want, but a big issue for them is an approval workflow - something MODx can't handle yet. I've listed out the key features below - if anyone has any suggestions we'd really appreciate them!

- PHP driven

- Open source a bonus

- Multiple language versions

- Multiple manager access roles

- Approval workflow with two levels of approval required before revision is published

- Version control with roll-backs

- Member login and registration with customised content - portal functionality

- Ecommerce add-on

- SEO friendly

- News and events database

- Blog

I can't really speak about all the popular CMS's but Expressionengine might fit:

1. PHP driven

Yep

2. Open source a bonus

Not Open Source but you get full access to all code files though you never need to touch them instead. There are numerous hooks and so on so you can write your own modules, extensions and plugins

3. Multiple language versions

EE can be multilingual, depends on exactly what you need to do

4. Multiple manager access roles

Yes, as many as you need

5. Approval workflow with two levels of approval required before revision is published

Yes, you can set as many "statuses" as you need as you need that would give you the functionality. There's also a useful workflow module that does this and much more - http://leevigraham.com/cms-customisation/expressionengine/nsm-publish-plus/

6. Version control with roll-backs

yep, have as many rollback points as you need

7. Member login and registration with customised content - portal functionality

Yes that's all possible out of the box depending what you need exactly

8. Ecommerce add-on

EE lacks a decent addon though it's easy for simple Paypal payments or you can use a hosted cart like Foxycart or Mals Ecommerce.

9. SEO friendly

Well that depends on your content :)

10. News and events database

Yep

11. Blog

Yep
