Hello everyone! So where do i start ...

Well a bit of myself. I am 23 and i come from Latvia now i live in England, Leicester and i like here in Leicester and England.

Been here almost 2 years.And i sure will stay here as i got serious relationship and so on and on ...

I been nibbling with cms website for some 3-4 years, doing it for my friends when then are in need.

But i always have wanted to learn it property.But every time i started to learn i just realize the shear amount of learning to do and i wasn't committed enough. And now one of my friend need some simple community web and only cms i know well is e_107 and i just couldn't do it this time i feel like i can't do what i want with it.

So it is time to learn no mater what. Basically i understand the code of css and php and html but can't code myself i can edit it if needed and that's about it.

So my dear friends what i ask u today is (ohh yeah same old,rusty so over and over repeated question) Where do i start? My goal would be making basic but still nice websites as a freelancer for small and medium company's

I have hear of php modules like ready codes for registration and all kind of other things so u don't have to code your self so much.So what do i read first what websites ? and what books if u could tell me some to get from WHSmith or other common bookstores

Hello. Like yourself, I've had previous experience in web design, studying then getting bored due to the amount of things there is..

However, over the course of the last few days I re-started studying HTML and CSS, joined this forum and I'm really starting to get the hang of things now, started using HTML and CSS to code sites I design on Photshop, and I'm really enjoying the experience of it!

I started with w3schools. I'm sure everyone here will direct you to this website as a starting point.

I read everything on there about HTML and CSS and used the 'try it yourself' and went through the scripts.

After you know the basics, I'd say the best way is to start making basic sites (they show you how to make you're 'very first webpage') and practicing. Get used to the basics first, then move on to the next.

After I'd gone through this site, over the next few days I re-read things I weren't sure on, trying to practice, but couldn't get the hang of some of the things (the beginners stuff is easy, it's the intermediate and advanced stuff that takes time to learn).

Yesterday was the first time I'd coded my own page in CSS and HTML by myself, and it went pretty well for a first design (sure I couldn't position anything, but everything else worked how I wanted it to).

Today I'm going to try to get used to positioning. I'll be posting more on this later.

Check the 'HTML, CSS & Javascript' section of the forum. There's a lot of things on how to get started there.

HTML and CSS are essentials, though. If you don't know HTML, you can't code a website. If you don't know CSS, styling a website will be pretty time consuming and painful.. and just won't work to be honest.
