December 23, 200916 yr I was thinking about it, mentioned it to a few people but everyone seems to think it's a bit pointless. I might do next year though, it's something to add to the CV.
December 23, 200916 yr I went to my local art university and got a cert in Web design. I feel that if you're going to get one get it from a uni that is respected. Not from a Website. That's just me. Nothing against W3Schools they're great but just seems a little pointless.
December 23, 200916 yr Author I think I need to add to my CV. I know most of html/css learning php, js and just want some recognition of what i know, or advanced training. Most courses are beginner or intermediate.
December 23, 200916 yr I'd have to agree with Seth, it's a little pointless and doesn't really mean anything. I remember seeing sites where that badge has been displayed, and yet the site doesn't validate; and on the other hand most people on here don't have that (or any similar) certification but their sites still validate. This is really only for those who want a badge on their site for the sake of having a badge and looking "legit" (no offense to anyone who might have one). For the majority of designers and developers the portfolio does most of the talking.
December 23, 200916 yr Author So is it acceptable to have not been to college/uni etc...and have no recognised qualifications. Does an employer trust your portfolio.
December 23, 200916 yr Well, here's an example. I was a history and journalism major in college with minors in anthropology and political science. Nothing to do with Web design. up until i got my cert i was completely self taught in Web design. I went back for my cert not to have it be plaque of my merit but more for learning. I think going to Uni for a cert and being in a classroom and spending the time (in my case 1 1/2) pays off. IMHO

January 3, 201016 yr I was looking in to this just the other day. In my opinion as the W3C is the standards body and general authority on all things web, I think it would be a good idea. I'm going to do them once I have all the skills I want under my belt. It can't hurt anyway. To be honest though, employers will go more on the strength of your portfolio and commercial work you have completed rather than qualifications. It's always been the way with web design and development and I don't see it changing any time soon. If you have an excellent and exceptional portfolio plus certification from the W3C you would stand a better chance than someone who just has a portfolio in the same league as yourself. It also shows dedication and a willingness to invest in your profession.
