November 15, 200916 yr Hi I have just migrated my domains to a managed VPS hosting plan and would like to know more about managing the server. Can anyone recommend a good book on the subject. A book written in plain English would be ideal. Jargon filled techy manual would only serve to cure insomnia!! Thanks Steve

Thanks Steve Hello Steve, If you are going for a managed plan ..you just need to email your hosting provider for any request and they should help you with problems related to there VPS..as its managed hosting plan, still if you wish to learn about plesk check out : http://kb.parallels.com/ can help you.
May 19, 201016 yr HogIT First, find out what items your VPS provider delivers to you. Do they update the OS? Do they update Plesk? Or do they treat it like a Ronco Rotisserie and "set it and forget it". Knowing what's included will help you limit the scope you need to learn. Also when you say "managing" do you mean using Plesk? Or getting to the command line and taking care of issues? For Plesk, numerous hosting providers provide flash based tutorials on how to use various features. Also, Plesk provides context sensitive help, which is often over looked. When you are in a section of the control panel, click on help at the left. It will be technically focused, but delivering hosting is a technical endeavor. If you are wanting to get your hands dirty at the commandline, then that's a steep hill to climb. A assuming the system is on a Linux OS, so one of the "dummies" books may be good. I don't know of a Plesk for Dummies title but there are many how-tos out there that provide good walkthroughs.
May 19, 201016 yr Author Hi, Thanks for the replies. I have had the VPS for several months now. At first i thought that my hosting company would not provide the same level of service as enjoyed by shared hosting .. hense the question. However the support that I have received has been exemplory ... emails answered in minutes so other than plesk (which I had to get to grips with on shared hosting anyway) the transition to VPS has been relatively painless. The managed VPS looks after all upgrades and tuning.
