November 12, 200916 yr Would appreciate any kind of help or suggestions I've started a wordpress blog for a client and hosted it under a subdomain from my site. That's fine, and the client has been busy populating the content. It was working brilliantly till yesterday when I noticed all the posts had disappeared! The pages, categories and tags are still there so not sure why all the posts were wiped out? Unfortunately I haven't got a recent backup of the database (stupid!) but was hoping that someone might have ideas on ways of retrieving the posts? The client hasn't contacted me yet, so I was hoping to have a fix or solution before they do... help!
November 12, 200916 yr Have you checked your database to see if the posts and pages are still in the wp_posts table? does your hosting provider not offer backups by default? Has the client or you changed the theme?
November 12, 200916 yr Author Have you checked your database to see if the posts and pages are still in the wp_posts table? does your hosting provider not offer backups by default? Has the client or you changed the theme? It's weird. It seems that some of the posts are in the wp-posts table. But only the ones that I populated from my machine. All the posts that my client populated from his office aren't showing? Spoke to my webhost and they do take 24hr backups but said that it wont be easy to find, if at all possible, so will charge for it. Ideally, I'd want to explore other options first. The theme is still the same, if it cahnged could this have affected the posts disappearing?

November 12, 200916 yr If the theme had changed then it could be that the theme doesn't show the posts. If the posts have all gone then it could simply be user error on the client side and they've deleted the posts to either restart or simply by accident. I would advise contacting the client and explaining the situation, to avoid any unexpected calls/emails from them, and to clarify hopefully what exactly has been done

November 12, 200916 yr I haven't looked at recent versions of Wordpress, however, if a user account was deleted that may have caused posts to be orphaned. I'd recommend you look further into the following things: Has a user been deleted Has the blog been upgraded (making the theme break?) Have database credentials changed? Turn error_reporting ON, that way you can figure out what the problem is.

Is it even possible for them to to mass delete posts accidentally?
November 12, 200916 yr Yeah, I've emailed the client asking if they're aware of the missing posts and if they have been messing around with the internals, or someone has made a booby? Is it even possible for them to to mass delete posts accidentally? Maybe. I'm sure theres a "select all" checkbox.
November 12, 200916 yr yeah you can select all and bulk delete, although it's three steps to do it Sometimes even 20 steps wouldn't stop a clients naivety ^^
November 12, 200916 yr Author YESSSS!!!!! im so relieved the client just emailed back saying they messed up a lot of the uploading so decided to delete all and start again from scratch!!! Bastads, they could have at least told me! freakin hell... Thanks all for all your help! Sorry that my client wasted your time... really appreciate all your help!

November 12, 200916 yr Author Don't you just hate it when that happens! I'm just relieved! From now on, daily backups, both automated and manual. This wont happen again!
