October 25, 200916 yr Hi Please review my website, just updated my site with a new design and got rid of the frames, would be good to hear your opinions, the website is for budget, no frills web design. Thanks Rory www.rlmwebdesign.co.uk
October 25, 200916 yr the RLM part of your logo is awful. throw it away the 'web design' bit would be ok if it didn't have a drop shadow so heavy the font for 'rory manning web designer' is amateurish. you need proper alt text on images no doctype at all font tags tables for layout css within the document not in external sheet where they should be the flash is a waste of time typos: Fees; You're looking for; no-frills... left aligned leaves alot of space to the right - why not centre it? it's quite, er very, grey your email will be harvested mercilessly remove it and stick with the contact form why put the date at the top of your site? i know the date or can find it from a million places and it's irrelevant to your site anyway as there's nothing date related on there. same goes for the 'last updated' bit. no-frills or not, i don't see anything that would invite me to spend any more time on your site, never mind contact you. harsh maybe, but true. i do quite like the purpley-blue bar at the top "however bear in mind that I do not charge for a project until you are totally satisfied with my work." could leave you open to infinite revisions by difficult clients
October 25, 200916 yr Author Thanks Dave - I guess its back to the drawing board... Was my black design better in your opinion? Thanks again!
October 25, 200916 yr The following is not from an experienced designer or developer as I am to still learning..! I personally have not thought of charges or details to sell my work yet as I don’t want to do that till I know I can justify people paying for what I offer. Sorry to say this but that site is not great. I would not be happy to be charged “£30 an hour” by someone with that level of knowledge. I don’t know 1% of what I want to know, but your home/portfolio page shouldn’t really be published with 19 errors in the html – have a look at - http://validator.w3.org/ Not trying to sound harsh but I think you need to have a look at some other portfolios etc of people trying to charge that amount and compare to yours at the moment. Don't hate me I'm nice really..! Torrix
October 26, 200916 yr I got 404 errors on all your pages apart from the homepage. The gradients are a little too harsh, as are the colours. Try and put it across in your design if you are offering no frills design. Be subtle with your colours.
October 27, 200916 yr Author Sorry about the 404 errors, I was just sorting it all out after the previous comments - it's now showing as no errors, what a useful link that was torrix, thanks!

No worries also very useful is the firebug app and web developer toolbar for fire fox just add them on "you will never look back...!" (if you dont already use them)
October 29, 200916 yr Gradients are too strong. try subtle blues like #3972a9 looks good on black too.
October 29, 200916 yr Agreed. Thats the first thing I thought - wow gradients! agree..! Better than it was before - still work to be done.
