Apologies if this is a stupid question but is there any kind of software which can monitor your website traffic & to find out how many enquiries are received through the contact us form?

 

I want to monitor the effectiveness of the site & make sure my SEO techniques are working.

Can you monitor how many times the contact form is used from how many mails you get in your Inbox from it? If not because they go to different people or something, the easiest way is probably to have a 'Thanks for your enquiry' page after the form submit that is monitored on the Analytics. You're unlikely to reach the page without submitting the form.

Your hosting package should include some sort of statistics package with it (AwStats/SmarterStats etc) which will provide this info.

I presume it only works for Google searches?

No, it works by tracking each and every page load on your site - part of that is looking at all the differnt places your visitors come from.

The Google connection is that you have a Google account in which to view the reports. Have a look here

 

Also, as Carl says above, you may have a stats package with your host but personally I prefer Google for a couple of reasons (over the stats packages I have used. Not saying that the following applies/doesn't to all of them as I don't know if it does!).

• Google can be customised and run the reports you tell it to and add your own filters and goals in there. You can also tie it with your Adwords account if you have one.
  
• It can email you reports detailing only what you have asked for on a regular period that you specifiy
  
• Some hosting based packages count log file info which doesn't necessarily tally with real page views.

Just add your site to google webmaster tools and google analytics - you will get so many stats you head will pop.

Ok.. Start a Google analytics account and put it's tracking code into all of your site pages.. then you can monitor visitors !!!

 

And to know how much of enquiries comes from contact us, set up a goal in google analytics with contact us page as goal URL
