I've had a quick look but can't really see what I'm looking for.

Could someone point me in the right direction please?

I'm designing a website for a local band.

Their current website is just a basic HTML website with images, gig dates and a link to an external store.

The website I am working on will have a calendar with all the gig dates on so they can be exported to Calendar program (iCal etc), an image gallery that members can add to (sign-up feature required), free downloads for members only, a forum, guestbook, bio's that the band members can update.

I'm thinking this is going to need to be done with a CMS?

How can I use the design i do with a CMS?

(Currently i'm designing with PS and making websites in (x)HTML so this is all new stuff to me).

Thank you.

I use Pure SEOCMS for a few of my sites and I think you may find it useful.Take a look at This Page, you can try a free copy (not time limited) from the page.

I will take a look. Thank you. :)

Users will be signing up to the website, so a database is going to need to be used.

Is this something that runs on my server then i view with an application on my machine?

Sorry for my lack of knowledge and experience.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Wordpress can do all of that for you. Do a search for 'wordpress band themes' and that might give you some inspiration.

The learning curve's a bit steep if you're new to php but it's worth it.

Cool.

I want to design the tempalte myself, I'll do a search for a tutorial on how to create my own design for Wordpress.

Download the 'starkers wordpress theme' wordpress theme by Elliot Jay Stocks - It's got all the functionality in place [kind of] but no style and you can literally build your theme from scratch.

I use this all the time. It was hard to do the first one, but I used this set of video tutorials to get me on the right track from CSS Tricks and then there was no stopping me:

http://css-tricks.com/video-screencasts/26-designing-for-wordpress-part-two/

There's loads of screencasts on this site and I've just found one about using wordpress as a CMS which might be useful:
