July 25, 200917 yr Hi! It was a time when I though creating a video sharing site like Youtube is an easy matter. But some days ago I finally realize that is nearly imposible because I heard I need VPS or greater server hosting. Although I can't understand why such requirements when I think I will have barely a few thousands vids uploaded by users. Also the hosting offers do not say how much bandwith lenght they support only unlimited transfer(for some) which reffers to the total amount of data that can be tranfered between servers and users. So after all I don't know what to choose and why and now I think to abort this upload feature . Instead I heard that there is a way to automaticaly redirect to Youtube users that want to upload some videos so I will not need other hosting and servers because the vids will upload to Youtube servers. Anyway there is a limit of 2000 vids but this can be ignored. What do you think and recommend please?
July 25, 200917 yr I'm not 100% certain I know what you mean... But if you want to build your own video sharing site, where users upload to your site. You will want to research into hosting which allows FFMPEG to be installed. I recently tried do something like this (on a much smaller scale) and the hosting which I went with, wouldn't allow it. What I did instead was to allow users to enter a youtube url into a form and then it automatically got the specfic video identifier and embeded the video player and created thumbnails for it. Another way to look into is the Youtube API, I think there's some tutorials online somewhere so should be able to find on google.
