I was wondering, as far as SEO what is better for backlinks: forums or directories or are they about the same?

 

I have been doing both but was wondering what I should concentrating on more.

I'd probably say directories, as they tend to be follow links, and they're properly categorised (making your links more 'relevant').

 

Although, i honestly don't think anyone browses 99% of the directories out their, so in terms of actual people, then forums/top directories.

Both are very, very low value links. All links help, but your time is better employed going for link diversity.

In the starting phase of website both directories and forums are helpful

Both are the great source of creating backlinks as they are qualified.but Forums are instant and quick in respect of directories. Free directories take lot of time to increase as to get convert in to quality backlink

Both plays an important role. Both strategies gives you quality of back links. I prefer forum postings very effective to get quality back links for a site.

I prefer forums. which will help in longer time and also carries much weightage than directories.

yes i too agree with you, Directories takes mmuch time in getting listed where forums act much faster to get indexed and add more weightage in backlinks.

Neither are brilliant. The majority of forums don't follow (like someone said) and directories generally have too many external links. Forums can be very irrelevant too and usually have a lot of links and text making relevant posts less specific (if that makes sense)...

I would say do both, they are not valuable but as a part of the bigger pictures you should go for link diveristy I do second that! Good luck!
