I was wondering if it would be possible to write some software that can pull down posts from an on-line forum or bulletin board without having administrative privileges?

 

Obviously not with passworded/restritcted posts that a given user doesn't have access to, just the posts he/she could normally read if they were browsing the forum via the site.

Many forums have an RSS feed to pull out topic titles etc which you could use - eithet use Magpie or Simplepie to pull the feed into a page or use a CMS to import posts directly into your own database.

YES! This is exactly what I was looking for actually. I had looked around myself and come to the conclusion that this was a much-wanted bit of software that nobody had written yet, so I was gearing up to write it myself. Now it seems I don't have to.
