April 24, 200917 yr Working on a template, i'd say it's about 80% done, so i figured i could post it up and get some feedback, suggestions etc. There's a few issues with it i'm not sure on, so if anyone points them out, i'll change them I look forward to seeing what you wizzes say/suggest/moan about etc. I'm still actively working on it so it may change, main things i'm looking for crits is content layout/structure etc. etc. Anyway linky: http://testing.thedailyroundup.com/templates/ and if i've already shown you, you'll probably need to refresh your cache. P.S i've only been testing in FF, Chrome should be ok, i'm scared to open it in IE :B (lies, IE isn't usually that much of an issue, always the odd bug though , although IE6 *screams*)
April 24, 200917 yr The big Gap between the section is a bit weird. Some you need more content for each section. Another thing, try to make the sliding more smooth. See this examples http://www.webinventif.fr/wp-content/uploa...st-wslide-2.htm
April 24, 200917 yr Generally i really like this. A couple of things for me... The bit of pink off the contact .... i'm just not sure about that bit. Personal taste really. The main content seems a bit gap - y too. My other main issue is the graphic at the bottom. I'm not keen... for me (again personally) it needs to be either a smooth vector type image or a really crisp photo. (Looking in opera and no wierd things there)
April 24, 200917 yr Author Some you need more content for each section You mean the about section? Yeah i'll fill that up with example snippets, like blockquotes etc. Hopefully that'll give me enough content Another thing, try to make the sliding more smooth. I tried easing, but it just bounced all over the place, how do i tone down the 'bounce', i do agree though, the sliding looks a little rigid and unnatural. The big Gap between the section is a bit weird I was debating the whole gap thing, i wanted a little bit of gap though for the scrolling affect My other main issue is the graphic at the bottom. I'm not keen... for me (again personally) it needs to be either a smooth vector type image or a really crisp photo. This was one of the things i was debating, i wasn't sure if it was too detailed in comparison to the rest, however i spent quite alot of time putting detail into the moon, so i wasn't sure (although most of the detail in the moon you can't actually see >.<) I'll probably vector a footer image. The bit of pink off the contact .... i'm just not sure about that bit. Personal taste really. You really are on a roll that's something i was debating too, it was actually meant to extend a little longer down the side, but i wasn't sure whether to bother, so should i remove the little bit altogether, or connect it up to the top like the others? But i personally think the logo needs to stand Out more It's stock, so while it's not critically important, the better it looks, the better it'll do right?
April 24, 200917 yr As stated above - initially the large gaps are weird, until you understand the scrolling. One criticism/improvement - the return to top doesn't take you to the very top of the page and hence you don't see the menu However, I do like it a lot :)
April 24, 200917 yr Author Yeah, wondered if that'd bug anyone I'll fix that initially the large gaps are weird, until you understand the scrolling. Isn't that just badness though? My thought is that if there's no space, the scrolling will look lame, but obv. with too much, it looks a little wierd. If i can get the sections to to fill most, or more of the viewport, that should be ok i hope
April 24, 200917 yr Author Ok, I've fixed all the points raised so far (i think), except the footer. And thank you minucocat for the link, that had an easing method on the page i've chosen to use (i could swear i tried them all before, but must of missed a few). Is the easing noticeable though? If not, using the easing plugin, does anyone know how to 'tone down' the easeOutBounce ?
April 27, 200917 yr Author ok, new footer, i think it looks better, although i'd like to add some more details to it, and amend the colours to fit a little better. Anyone got any idea's for cute little additions to the footer? and does the footer look a little better now? Any more comments, suggestions and crits? One suggestion i've had, was that there should be more padding around the edges of the content... yes? no?
April 27, 200917 yr I really like it. The footer graphic looks amazing. (I haven't seen the previous one) I don't think you need more padding, it's clean as it is and very readable. I agree that the pink 'string' of the Contact link looks weird as it just stops half-way through. Maybe get rid of it? And regarding the scrolling, I am using one of those on this page. Its pretty smooth. If you have a look at the source you can just steal the js (it's based on jquery) Hope this helps mate
April 27, 200917 yr I quite like the layout but the spacing between the content? I didn't use the navigation at the top (actually didn't see it until I came across the lower content) and found a huge gap and then more content. This makes the side navigation look poor (though it's operation is nice). Generally, I like it and not too sure how to cure the gap thing.
April 27, 200917 yr Author You can see the old footer here: http://testing.thedailyroundup.com/templat...s/mountains.png Generally, I like it and not too sure how to cure the gap thing. More content will be added in particular to the about me section (examples of elements like block quotes and stuff). and then i'll close all the gaps, hopefully it'll look ok then *fingers crossed* and then i'll finish the contact form off (there's no submit incase no one noticed ) I've come across a small bug in chrome though that i'm not sure how to go about fixing, on the quote slider, if you just click on of the knob things, it reverts to the top of the page because of the # value. Can i have some clarification on this though? This makes the side navigation look poor (though it's operation is nice). Not sure what you mean. Thanks for all the help though, it's been useful (: in particular about the footer, i was a little reluctant to change it, but i'm pretty glad i have, i just want to make the footer that extra bit special now.
April 27, 200917 yr Yes, sorry. I was typing whilst thinking and not always a good idea. Because I scrolled down the side menu system seemed to be wrong. It simply 'looked' incorrect and out of place. When I used the top navigation system then it worked fine. I'll keep an eye and let you know once you have closed the gap. No idea about Chrome. That's the trouble with trying to build for a new system.
April 27, 200917 yr I have recently used this site to get the Scrolling Effect I just increased the duration to around 1800 to smooth out the effect.
