April 5, 200917 yr I use 980px as this fits nicely 1024px screen allowing space for the right hand scroll bar found in most browsers.
April 5, 200917 yr I prefer 960, purely because of what he said, but also the maths (960 is divisible by alot of numbers, making it extremely flexible in creating proportionate layouts). But make sure there's no horizontal scroll on a 1024 width, so keep it under around 990 and you should be ok

April 6, 200917 yr I am a big fan of the 960grid framework so 960px I also understand that it's extremely popular so they must be doing something right.
April 8, 200917 yr Hi Guys, This is my first post here, looking forward to getting to know everyone. Ok so, page widths for fixed designs on set resolutions, here we go let's see how different I am to everyone else; 800x600 - 780px Width 1024x768 - 1004px Width Anything else is done dependant upon the clients request, the majority of the time I find myself when designing for the web to use 1004 pixel width as this leaves 20 pixels for the scroller bar on the right of the screen in most if not all browsers. Also note the widths given above are for a fixed design at full page width on the given resolutions. If I were to add borders around the left and the right hand side I usually design: 800x600 with borders - 740px 1024x768 with borders - 964px Hope to have helped
April 11, 200917 yr Hi everyone, Head in the shed here, just joined. What happened to keeping everything at 800 then??
