Hi all.

I have been trying, maybe in the wrong section I guess now to find a programmer.

 

The thing is that I own a 95% finished dating and networking site - 'that is totally debt free' and that has been live for over two years with nearly 2,500 members.

 

The trouble is that I have run out of money to finish it and get it rolling properly and making money so need to find someone who is a little entrpuneurial who will accept my very generous offer of a share in the business.

 

The only thing is that no one is coming forward who doesnt have the foresight to even ask about a so far un used and unique twist that my site uses, everyone just wants to be paid on an hourly basis for development.

 

The site just needs a little more work and then ongoing SEO to see it take off - so near yet so far! I dont want any money from anyone, just time for a 'very' generous cut of the profit secured by a contract.

Looking at you posts on here this is why I think you haven't gotten anyone.

it is a professional web site with currently 2307 members who are using the site.

 

So if the site has over 2000 members then people must be able to find it and sign up to it, so not providing a link to people on request could put them off.

 

 

Also 25% share of the net profit, what is the profit that you have had over the past two years?

 

Then there is the 10,000 members £1 a month thing...how do you plan on making money before the reach of 10,000 members?

 

How do you plan on getting to 10,000 members, after all if you have no money to spend on a developer where will the money for advertising come from, as after all a good unique idea is nothing if no one will know about your site. After all if you continue to grow at the rate of 2300 members every 2 years that means that that another 4 and a half years will pass before any return on investment of time will be made for this developer.

 

 

Then there is the, this is a debt free business at the moment, and if you can project that soon you will be making £10,000 a month why are you not willing to take out a business loan on this business venture? After all if you can see it as making a lot of money then surely you would be willing to spend some money to make some money. Or is it a case of well if this flops all I have lost is the hosting costs rather than being in debt? In which case you don't really believe that this can make money you are just hoping that it might for as little out of pocket expense as possible.

 

 

Sorry to say is, I think that if you have no faith in your product that it will make money and your not willing to spend money on something you claim could make a lot per month, developers that have the talents to do this work are going to see it as 25% of £0 profit is nothing but wasted time...and money as after all developing a site is money to a developer, so it will cost the developer money to do this site for you, after all the time they poor into building your site could of been spent developing a site they would get paid for.

 

So really if you are not willing to give any real details, you are not going to get any real responses.

Perhaps there is a lack of interest because people generally don't believe they can get anything from it? As Dizi has pointed out, you've made a few mistakes in your approach and you've neglected funding elsewhere so you must not be so confident in the service.

 

It is clear you're looking for somebody with an entrepreneurial mind but upon first impressions, you do not have this characteristic and anyone could see that a 25% share would be unjust seeing as the appropriate candidate would have to put more time into the business by not just kick starting it, but showing you the ropes, in order to get something out of it.

 

Let's not forget you haven't actually provided any of the vital information required for most people to make an important decision like this.

 

For the record, subscription fees only really work on porn websites!

Was a bit bad of me to comment on something I've never used before lol. I know that adult dating sites charge subscription but that's because most of the members are brasses and punters and there is quite a bit of adult material on the site anyway.

lol shaun - the reputable dating sites (Match.com / PlentyOfFish etc...) all use subscriptions to great effect. But I don't know about the adult ones personally... sounds like you do though (only messing )

I thought you were looking for relationship advice due to the title of this thread but I guess not.

 

I think if you pony up a little cash it will go a long way to getting yourself a developer. I know you don't have much in the way of funds but if you consider how much you've spent so far a little extra may be worth it.

worked on sites like that.... yeah... me too....

won't even consider looking at it till I can see a URL... You'll probably find every other developer in the world feels the same.

I do agree with most of the above but we have been doing shared equity arrangements with many website owners over the past 10 years and it has been very profitable for us.

 

I do think that a mere 25% is too low, but like anything, you never advertise what you will actually accept.
