You could have an installments system... 20% up-front and then 20% at each pre-determined checkpoint until the job is complete. I always try to take payment in cash/cheque or via paypal - as long as you declare your tax it doesn't matter how he pays you

March 5, 200917 yr Personally I prefer bank transactions. 1) If a cheque bounces you may incur fees (and if they scarper, you are left with a useless piece of paper and owing money to the bank). 2) Why should paypal take a cut of your money. I do accept cash as well (for locals only though - don't accept any responsibility for monies lost through royal pain in the bum mail)

March 5, 200917 yr No a direct debit is a payment made on a regular basis - what you want is a one off payment, so a bank transaction is best. If this guy is your driving instructor then I am guessing that he is local to you so cash would be fine (if he is happy with that) or even in this case a cheque is fine as long as you have a contract in place to protect yourself (which you should do for every project!) Tel Yea I contract, I must draw up on soon, I think what he wants me to do should him around £600+ I do not think he would give me cash in had so a bank transfer would be best
March 5, 200917 yr Yeah get a contract drawn up for sure and then arrange a bank transfer with him - 25% up front is best and 75% when complete. Good luck with the project and don't forget to post up your designs for us all to have a look at when you get to that stage

March 6, 200917 yr It's called a debit transfer, it's something that I try and encourage from my customers too. All you need to give is your name, sort code and account number, and they can transfer the money into your account, easy peasy

March 6, 200917 yr yes... to make online payments and stuff the full card no, expiry date, issue no and security code is needed. So as long as you don't give those out.....perfectly safe.

Would you just need account number and sort code ?

March 7, 200917 yr Yah, as others have said. If you give him your sort code and account number, he can go to the bank and get the money paid straight into your account, either by him paying in cash or by withdrawing the funds from his account first. Allternatively he could do it through internet banking if he has that facility. I work in a bank, I ought to know (Although most things do tend to go over my head ).
