March 4, 200917 yr Hi, I've been doing Mailshot advertising over the past few days and didn't realise how time-consuming it was! I'd like to know if anyone here chose to do mailshots by themselves or went to a direct mail company to do it. If so which ones would you recommend? Cheers, Dan.
March 4, 200917 yr I always do my own mailshots to be honest. I target a very small group with each campaign so it means I have less work to do and my message is more succinct. The best mail shot I did was when I was at uni and my creative partner and I were trying to get a job in advertising. I sent out a pair of (new) underpants to all of the big advertising agencies with a business card and a covering letter saying: "This is the briefs fro briefs campaign. You have our briefs now send us your old ones to work on..." or words to that effect. We got hundreds of replies from all the top agencies and got quite a few placements from it You have to think outside of the box with any form of direct mail. A letter just doesn't cut it!
March 4, 200917 yr LOL, that is absolutely brilliant Terydinho! The only way to get noticed is to stand out after all, so definitely avoid the cliched techno jargon which will most probably end up in the bin, focus on sales/benefits to them and grab their attention with something a bit special! Again, Terydinho, inspired!
March 4, 200917 yr I remember a while back, a design agency made these like 3d card robots, they were pretty cool. Lovin the briefs idea Someone recently sent Richard Branson a can of sardines, http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-...on-1135976.html That was a pretty amusing idea. It's all in the metaphors
March 4, 200917 yr Cheers LYKC - much appreciated I had read about the sardines idea - brilliant stuff and it got a lot of PR coverage too which is great. As LYKC said; steer clear of any techno-babble and just concentrate on what they want to hear... things like "Increase Profits, reduce costs" etc.... always go down well (but make sure you can back your claims up)

An amusing story, thanks for sharing Yeah, I've been using letters but I've been throwing in a few postcards and business cards aswell. I'll see how it goes. I like the idea of targeting a specific group of businesses. Cheers for the replies, Dan.
