February 28, 200917 yr I am currently located in Norway. My interests are many. I haven't started designing websites yet (well, except for one using the paperprototyping method), but I do know a thing or two about how they should be (read Steve Krug's second edition of "Don't make me think", Joel Spolsky's "User Interface Design for Programmers", and bits and pieces elsewhere). I greatly support FOSS, and have photography and computers in general as a hobby. Current goal is studying computer science and becoming a softwaredeveloper (have a program that is about 75% through in design. Going to opensource it, but first I need to write it. And before that; learn programming. And before that; finish the design. Well, maybe parallell to learning Java eh?). I'll begin by commenting websites here. If you find my comments harsh or in other ways displeasing, note the following: 1: It's not personal. 2: Yes, it might seem like a huge chunk of only bad stuff, but there is a high likelyhood that there are a lot of good things there as well. If I see a website I don't like at all, my comments will probably be shorter, and just be advice to read up on mentioned book and article. 3: I write in bulletpoints. More or less in the order of what I find annoys me. This makes it easier for both of us. 4: I'll be very glad if I don't have to sidescroll. I'm usually on a computer with 1024*768 pixels in resolution. You probably have a greater solution. But if you look at these statistics, you can see that less than 40% uses higher than my resolution. So be wise, and don't make me scroll to the sides, especially when it's not necessary. 5: Yes, it seems like I ask lots of questions. Most of these are there for _you_ to ponder over, and come up with good answers to (or just rectify the, for lack of a better word, error). Sometimes I will write more on the question. You'll know if I want to discuss further because I am unsure. 6: If I swear, or it seems as though you can sense the profanity lurking in my voice, then this is an indication of a graver error. (Questions are a bit like that too, but not always.) 7: It's not personal! (this written because I've got comments in the past, by people who were offended because they just didn't understand). Its a shame really as the advice you give is good but you need to learn that there is a difference between criticising someone design and insulting them on a personal level. After all everyone starts somewhere when it comes to design and I am sure that your first few designs weren't perfect...So in a way I think they had a right to be offended if you have replied to others the same way as you have replied in the other post. Anyway welcome to the forum, I hope that you will share some of your work with us when you start designing sites, so we can see if your design skills are as good as your attacks are
