February 28, 200917 yr Hi, Im actually thinking of doing my own forum (Photography Forum) Noticed this is IPB and wondered what peoples opinions were about the best forum software? I would prefer free (smf, mybb, phpbb3 etc etc) Matt
February 28, 200917 yr I've only had experience with phpbb, but I've got no complaints about it to be honest. Can be a bit fiddly at first, but certainly does the job.
February 28, 200917 yr Author Hi, TBH ive had a dabble with SMF, PHPBB3 and MYBB and found this: SMF - Nice looking, easy to administrate but doesnt seem that powerful PHPBB3 - Nice looking, confusing admin panel and terrible permissions MYBB - A bit weird looking in ways, looks powerful enough and the mybb support forum is absolutely terrible.(very cocky, mouthy admins) I was going to try IPB but its chargeable and dont want to pay for something to find out i dont getg on with it. Matt
February 28, 200917 yr I have only ever used IPB and it was spot on, plenty of plugins to do what you need it to do and good support.
February 28, 200917 yr IPB all the way, it's brilliant. You only have to pay once for a license, and you can use it forever. There are tonnes of forums around for free mods and free skins, it's really customizable, powerful, everything.
February 28, 200917 yr Author Hi, I might use ipb actually as this forum look nice. I once saw a mint theme for ipb that had reflective avatars and cant remember. It was £15 i think but looked amazing! Matt
February 28, 200917 yr IBP is awesome. Vbulletin isn't too bad, if you're going for a free forum, PHPBB has a great backing community.
March 1, 200917 yr IPB / vBulletin if you don't mind paying. If you want free software then I'd recommend Vanilla
April 7, 200917 yr Among the open-scripts one, I have used both phpBB3 and SMF. phpBB3 always takes the lead. It has got more mods, themes etc. On the other hand, SMF doesn’t give you much features as compared to phpBB3. Demo : forum hosting
