Hello fellow WDF'ers! I've finally somewhat finalized my new blog design, and now I'd like to get some feedback on it.

I just uploaded it, so there might be bugs around, but mainly it should work. And I haven't had time to add more content yet, but the first post is all readable. One thing I noticed was that list within posts and pages are missing bullet-points in IE7. Need to fix that soon.

 

I might add a portfolio to the site later on.

From a design point of view it is too simple.There is nothing else than the logo at the top... which feels empty.

Also the menu it's a bit plain/boring.

 

I think that you should put a lot of stuff in the top header part and that would compensate for the rest of the website.

Non-personal. It's your very own blog so inject some personality into it! Add some graphics/imagery to break up the flat tones and make your header more memorable. Highly forgettable at the moment and that's the last thing you want for a blog.

 

And what's with the scrollbars in your main nav? (minimise the window)

I get this if I resize, so i'm assuming its a resolution thing, still not good though, with my browser window resized I had to scroll before I could click on a button.

 

Design wise its a little too simple as someone else stated its your own very personal slice of the web, its about you, you dont have the constraints of having to appeal to potential clients, so go wild make it yours.

Many thanks for the replies everyone. I'll see what I can do about the navigation, must something about the positioning I'm trying to use.

 

I'll try something more. I'm just glad that after a year of uptime I got something designed for it.

The sidebar is disapearing when the window is minimized in firefox and I scroll across.

 

It's an ok layout - very wordpress/conventional though - if thats what your aiming for then great, but you could go for something a little different if it's just a personal site - the header needs urgent attention - it's far too plain.

 

It's quite a clean design, but too minimal (in a bad way), the footer is a bit oversized aswell, definately lacking some graphics!

Sidebar disappearing. Yes, I'm using 'overflow: auto;' on the main container to clear a float. The sidebar doesn't disppear, its just hiding behind a scrollbar near the footer. And the size it begins to become quirky is quite small. I'll get a fix for this one I've got other things out of the way. Thanks for pointing out though.
