January 30, 200917 yr I've attached a mock up of a site I'm currently looking to launch. We still need a design to be finalised but if you could give me critism on this inital design please. The cloud will probably be removed from the final design - it's just to show the location of the logo. The site is going to be a wordpress blog about music festivals. Cheers.
January 30, 200917 yr honestly looks pretty bad.I don't understand what's that horrible red thing there. Then I just don't like that green. If you keep it at least make the menu more bold. Also the text is too small, the fonts arent perfect and looks overall crowded The website main's problem is that green in combination with blue realy really dont like it.The whole color scheme actually as there are 3-4 ugly square green things at the bototm. Otherwise it's not really bad.It could be looking great with a few changes in color and maybe 1-2 nice effects
January 30, 200917 yr Author I probably didn't explain it well enough. The red bit at the top is an area for advertising. The green boxes are placeholders for images within the posts I make - so they wont be green when the site goes live. The reason for the green and the blue as it's about outside music events and hence green fields, blue sky. I'll take that on board though. Anyone else?
January 30, 200917 yr With a decent logo it could look good, but def not the cloud. Advert might be a little intrusive but guess that's the idea of adverts!
January 30, 200917 yr Author With a decent logo it could look good, but def not the cloud. Advert might be a little intrusive but guess that's the idea of adverts! I'm pretty sure we will be rid of the cloud and we're currently getting a logo together now. As for the advert I agree, we're undecided which advertising program to go with. I noticed your from Reading scaz. I'm not too far, in Ascot.
January 31, 200917 yr Author Ok, here is a revision i've made to the inital design. It's pretty different, constructive crit please including the colourscheme. Take not that the red box at the top is for advertising and the green boxes at the bottom will be filled with pictures relevant to the articles.
January 31, 200917 yr Doesn't say festival to me. The original was better (if a little cliché, the sky and grass idea is overused on festival sites now) and more relevant. That just looks like you've found an image of some brush strokes and stuck it in there because it looks kinda cool, but with little thought. I'd say go back to the original. Either have a green background for the length of the page, or stick a green to white gradient in at the bottom of the grass about 200 - 300 pixels tall so it doesn't just stop dead. The navigation gets a bit lost. Give it some more space. Maybe tab them or box them in. Just give them something that says its there and it wants to be clicked. Don't understand why you have thumbnails for all your sub-headlines, but not for your main story. Try sticking a full width image between the date line and the headline, about the same/slightly taller than the thumbnails. The 'Read Full Story' links on the sub-headlines are a bit mixed in. Try moving them onto the right hand side of the same line as the date, in the same font as the date.
January 31, 200917 yr Author Thanks for the advice Ben. When the site is up there will be an image in the main article at the top. I agree with the statement about the read more buttons, i'm rectifying that as I type this.
January 31, 200917 yr Author Heres a new mockup. I like this design a lot better and I've taken on you guys suggestions. The banner still needs a little work, the logo will feature on there when it's completed. Tell me what you think please.
January 31, 200917 yr Personally, I don't think you should have advertising in the header, it makes the header background less effective and doesn't leave space for anything else festival-related but the grass and sky. Is it a constraint from the client? I like the new layout for the posts though, it looks better in a grid

Is it a constraint from the client? No, it's actually a personal project so nice to get on with something without a clients "can you just change that" . I take your point there Sam about it blocking the banner. It's easy enough to find somewhere else for it.

I like the third design more than the others, think with a little development could be good.
