I want to start learning web design and it will have to be via distance learning..i just wondered...

 

where do i start??

 

if it helps my main interest is in the actual design part of web design so that will have an infulence....

HTML and CSS are the building blocks for a basic website.....HTML dog and W3schools are where it's at.

 

Then you can look into adding design using your image editor of choice.....or that's the way I did it.

Code in XHTML/CSS

 

Design in Photoshop.

Start from XHTML,CSS then you'll find what you need next.

Be very careful when choosing distance learning, I started that way and the course I was given was awful, it was with ICS if your in the UK, it was terribly outdated, Innacurate and a total waste of money.

 

I learnt so much more off my own back by using sites like W3Schools and Htmldog concentrating on design and image production is fine but I would really recommend learning HTML and CSS to a decent standard aswell as you could come up with the most amazing design then realise its just not possible to code it.

 

If you are interested in becoming a designer for a design studio, you will do well to aquaint yourself with Photoshop, and illustrator these are pretty much industry standard programs, they are very pricey, so it may be worth downloading a free package such as the gimp or paint.net to get you use to using these kinds of program, it will also give you some hands on time and help you decide if you can do this all day every day.
