How to promote only in the UK

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm promoting an online shop, and it only ships products to the United Kingdom, so the only traffic we're interested in is in United Kingdom.

Should I just invest a lot of time and go and search for UK forums that relate to the niche?

Or should I just promote the website anywhere using social bookmarking etc and just hope that some of the traffic will come from the united kingdom?

What do you guys do with promoting websites only for certain areas in the United Kingdom etc?

Apart from the "on page" optimisation.

If you find the forum on your 'uk' search engine and you reckon as a user you'd click on it, then it has value to be on it. It depends on whether you're looking for backlinks or user-directed promotion. If backlinks then it doesn't matter as you're just SE-feeding. What's your ethics? If you're helping out then sure, a backlink for your trouble is fine. And wave the Union Jack whilst you're there! ;)

Hi

Some things that help if you are targetting search engines based in the UK (But mainly Google UK!):

Have your server based in the UK

Have the .co.uk domain name, as well as email addresses

Make sure you have an address at the footer of all pages stating a UK address

Check that the domain name details are up to date and reflect a trading company based in the UK

Just some things we picked up along the way

Cheers, ST
