I have just spent the last 700 hours creating this. http://www.philthomaswebdesign.co.uk/wordpress/

I don't really do blogs so this was just a test to see if I could make one of those wordpress themes I've been reading about.

I'm pretty pleased with most of it but I'm sure its full of bugs. See what you think.

One bit I can't figure out though is, on the front page with the posts, if you click on the comments links (1 Comment, 2 Comments etc...) the form for adding new comments looks poop.

The big textfield kind of styled itself off the form on the 'contact' page but I can't seem to find the css bits for the other 2 white input boxes. Any ideas?

Also, on the first post, why is my text not wrapping round the image? It does it on the normal theme so im guessing i need to add something to my css?

700 hours!! damm, lol overall the design is great, the colors work well, the only thing I would do is spread the nav text out a bit its a little cramped right now, also maybe darken up the (everything) text its a little hard to read.

To style the text form, the actual comment forms id is #comment

Thanks, So i just need something like:

#comment .textfield

{

width: 240px;

background-color:#947ea2;

border: 1px solid #000000;

margin-bottom:5px;

}

In my css?

.comments-template textarea

{

background-color:#947EA2;

border:1px solid #000000;

font-family:Arial,Helvetica,Georgia,Sans-serif;

font-size:12px;

margin-bottom:5px;

margin-top:10px;

width:240px;

}

Just want to say well done for tackling wordpress - doing so myself at the mo, and it is rotting my brain. I just don't get it!

Design wise, I like it, but it's a little bit too purple. However, after the addition of more content, along with some more photos/designs it should break it up a bit.

I too agree with the nav needing a little padding.

Thanks! Yeah WP is doing my head in too. Its one of those things where you can do everything right and miss a little " somewhere and the entire site fails...

I'm with you on the purple issue. It actually gets worse with more content as it turns to a solid horrible purple colour. I'll do something with it but I like the fade a the top. I just never made a purple site before and as this is an experiment anyway!...

As for the nav, what do you mean by pad it out? its compressed like that to fit it all in for a 1024 resolution. It may be that you are using safari/IE as it looks different on these atm. I quite like it so i'll see how it goes.

Helen, been reading your blog, what course did you do? Any chance of a link?

Boyles,

edit* I just sussed the form style thing, thanks for your help!

double edit* I really need to google before asking simple questions...

Dont worry about googling, lol thats what we're here for! I probally asked these guys 100 questions when i was making my blog

I like...would love to know how to do stuff like this but if it took you that long I have no chance.

Just one thing...you say dog to the right...isn't he to the left? lol

WELL DONE YOU!

I'll see if I can find it for you.....

That pink is vibrant and actually catchy with the image behind your name in the banner. I actually found the condensed letter spacing in the menu amusing in a positive way. But I immediately wanted to find out more about what the Paul T. had to say.. :)

One thing, I didn't expect the main menu link to go outside the site...but shame on me for clicking before even reading what it said.

Thanks! But who is paul t?

You make a good point about those external links though. I may end up making a new wordpress page for each that then links out.

Wow.... just checked out your site again (I was having a sneeky look at your code to see how you did it!)

What an improvement. 100% better.... really like it.

Personally I think the sidebar would look better as a separated box and I think the whole layout is very cramped and needs to be spaced out. Its very nice but to make it perfect it just needs more spacing and maybe some more typographic or illustrative going on.

I really like it! I'm a big fan of closely-kerned Helvetica, so on the web closely-kerned Arial will have to do :) And well done on resisting the urge to to use a sans-serif font for posts, this makes things a lot easier to read. My one criticism would be the links; the grey colour doesn't (in my opinion) provide enough contrast with the copy, and could do with some other visual distinction (underlined? bold? I'm not sure...) Also, the hover colour for links is unreadable. But... really nice design, I like it a lot!
