I would welcome any feedback on a site I have just created for a client - www.paulsmodellingworkshop.com.

There is still a little bit more content to come from the client, and also an amount of duplication in the portfolio pages until I show him the CMS to tidy that up, but apart from that, it's pretty much there. It would be great to have some feedback before we really start pushing the site though.

Many Thanks

Ian

I thought its pretty good, the theme its been styled in goes well with the content. Am a beginner so i cant offer you much more feed back than that

I'm liking that :) Nice to see something that's original and fits the subject matter.

Suggestions..

- the left page seems slightly too bright. Can that be toned down slightly in order to keep attention focussed on the content page?

- The background may also be a little bright. I was going to suggest changing it to a darker, grimier type of wood (tavern style) but thinking about it now, that might be a bit much.

- Perhaps some very light texturing on the pages and the inside part of the book cover? It looks a little airbrushed and polished to be paper.

Just minor things, though. I like it, especially the way you haven't crossed the line into cliche (daggers stuck into the wood background, torn/burnt pages etc).

Totally agree - I love the look of the site - it's very fitting and very polished. I'd take Bumfluff's advice and it'd be perfect!

My only little suggestion is perhaps changing the link colour to the burgundy as the blue doesn't fit with anything else but that's about all I can come up with! Nice site. :D

Thanks very much to all for the feedback. Glad to know I'm on the right track, and wasn't being too 'cheesy'! I'll certainly be implementing the suggestions where I can.

Completely agree about the paper texture, and wanted to do something about it, but not sure if I can. I'm producing the guy's brochure for print and PDF too. That's having a parchment look, and it would have be great to keep carry that over more to the site. The background for the page content is made up of a 1px image. I could make it taller to incorporate a seamless texture, and get that aligned OK with the page header. Just don't think I could ensure it lines up seamlessly with the footer given the variable content length. I'll have to experiment a bit on that one.

Thanks again to you all.

Ian

Very.... Original! I like everything about it except on the services page where there is no link to your ebay site.

Thanks for that. It's not 'my' site though, it's a clients. He doesn't have anything for sale on ebay at the moment, so there is nothing to link to. He intends to concentrate on selling commissions through this site instead. However he has such a good reputation from ebay though, so it's in there for reference and for search engines.

on the content issues, I notice it mentions a price list on the Services page, which doesn't seem to exist.

As for making it look a bit older, I'm sure there is a way to introduce a little bit of noise or something that will break up the perfectness but keep the repeat.

If not, try messing up the left page instead? Or having different versions of the header/footer with different stains perhaps.

I absolutely love the site though, and got totally engrossed so that's a big positive :)

Thanks for pointing that out. A price list was there, but the client wants to put the prices in against the portfolio pages now. I took that price list out and completely forgot to change his text!

I'll definitely try to age or texture the site somehow, and thanks for your suggestions.

Glad you liked it.
