My new and improved site.

Please note, some work still to be done, but i'd love some ideas, thoughts and suggestions.

Ta.

Still to do:

more images on the headerbar

add meta keywords etc

add unique content for hosting/domain pages

I like it.

It is simple, and I am addicted to that.

Is this what you wanted optima for? it would have been splendid...! I'll set it for you.

I think I would get rid of the macbook down at the bottom, thought, replace it with something simple that reflects from your random "brighter design"-field. And I think maybe drop the blue one of them, and go with mildly contrasting colours, like you have in the green and orange. I think also I would have tried to cut down on text a little.

The last line in the fourth paragraph ends a little oddly.

Just my two tiny pennies. I DO like it, and I cannot say that about most sites.

The "brighter design"-field is good - it gives you an opportunity to change your site when you get tired of it, without actually doing a total makeover.

Thanks Boblet

No, it wasnt what i wanted Optima for - that was for a Village News magazine i'm working on currently.

I'll have a play with the images on the brighter design bit, ive got some ideas :)

Any other views, folks?

Honestly I think I preferred your old one. Also that car tire is really bugging me, it's obviously been cut off half way because you can see all that new fangled braking mumbo-jumbo going a lot deeper.

Cabbage, I don't get what you mean about the wheel?

And what did you prefer about the old one, i mean, can I integrate the bits you liked back in..?

(version still up - see portfolio.html )

Now that I've seen the old one again I do prefer the new one. I just remembered it looking sleeker than it is for some reason, the new design is more spacious and aesthetically pleasing due to the better use of colour. A few things that I'd recommend though, for one move the page up a little, the gap at the top above the logo is too large. Maybe do something to spice up the navigation a bit too, the pipes look a little to simple for an otherwise quite sophisticated design, maybe try playing around with some typographical elements (like the "a great new website isn't out of your reach" text) within the navigation. Increase the outline on the speech bubbles a little bit too, they break up and alias a little bit as they are.

Other than that I like it :).

The car tire I'll try and explain. You can see from the renault logo (which you should probably shop out, to avoid any copyright issues) that it's a car tire, however from the width of the tire it looks more like a motocross tire (minus the knobbleys). It just seems really apparent to me that the picture has been edited so that the tire isn't as wide as it should be.

Okey dokelys

The picture hasn't been edited, it's an actual photo I took - see http://www.webdesignerforum.co.uk/index.ph...=si&img=230

At first glance it looks good but I suggest you work on the following points, for the home page :

1. You have two contradictions between words and their representation. The word "vibrant" is low in saturation, and the word "brighter" is bold and dark;

2. The "a great new" part has too little [or too much negative] kerning and is hard to read.

3. Adding testimonials is a great way to turn visitors into customers. The problem is that I only skimmed through the design and never read the copy within the bubbles. You should make it obvious that you are citing someone who you helped. As such, quotation marks and the reference (who you helped) would give an hint to the eyes.

4. I also suggest you add some white space in the design. It is very cluttered at the moment, especially around the main image in the content area. The footer is also too close from the content (the four rectangles).

On the other pages, I notice a header is lacking. I need to be driven into the text, ya know? But overall it's a good start. There's a lot of text, maybe you could cut shorten it down a tad.

Cheers,

Quimp

Thanks Quimp, I can certainly see where you're coming from there.

Will take that into account :)

  • 2 weeks later...

I like the new one a lot more, I would just look into using images that go with each area for the headers so that they aren't randomly chosen when you go from page to page. But over all I really like the redesign compared to the portfolio page which I believe is the older version of the site.

I think its a great site but I think you should change to yellow area next to the tyre to a different one. It doesn't work for me. Maybe just changing the tone of yellow could work but im not a fan of that colour. Other than that, great site!
