  1. I'd like it to be able to run similarly to hairsisters.com, i'm not talking about the design, just the functionality. Besides they got one superb feature that I'd really need on my own site when you go to a product http://www.hairsisters.com/ver2/Remi-Weaving/GODDESS-SELECT-REMI-HUMAN-HAIR-WEAVE-EURO-BODY/index.php and you select the color, the color swatch appears under the dropdown menu is that function something that code should be customly written for? i was thinking about getting Magento, but im not sure now..
  2. But tell me, why anyone would start a project without any money involved, deposit if not full payment upfront? I just can't imagine spending weeks on a site to not even get paid for that. I also had a similar client. I spent one week IM'ing with her, she kept mentioning all those features she'd like, she filled out all the questionnaires, sounded like she does have some budget in mind. And when I gave her a price, she told me she's tapped. It was something around $1000. I was like WTF? But I decided to haggle, b/c I needed money back then and no discount offer worked. Then I thought that maybe she's thinking I would have offered that to her for free, so I kept haggling just to check what was her budget, I offered doing it for $100 (!!!) at some point and she still insisted that she's tapped. So I was right. I don't know what's with those people, there's nothing for free.
  3. So I am about to start web design project for publishing brand tonight... it WILL NOT be an online magazine, like the-fashion-bomb.com or whatever, keep this in mind. We have everything ready, but my client just informed he wants to add a blog on the 6th page, but such a blog in which comments are available only for subscribed members (and obviously there is already an eCommerce section called "Subscriptions" when one pays for joining my client's magazine bookclub, children club etc., whatever my client offers to their subscribers) . So I figured that one option would be: creating blog accounts ourselves and send login info to subscribers (they'd later change their passwords of course). But then open registration woul d have to be some kind of disabled. Custom coded system is not an option, because project has to be kept within $1100. I'd be soooo thankful for any suggestions on how to work this out. I'd prefer to use WP, but that isn't necessary. Just ANY solutions.
  4. Hey, so I just created a website for a client, rebirthsound.com. Site is already run by CMS, just a simple PageLime, because we didn't need anything fancy. However my client asked if it's possible to enable people to add comments to the news. I'd like homepage, news page, be run by some PHP (or not PHP) news system, where a person logs in to write an article and people can add comments to it, like CuteNews works. Any cavils, recommendations?
  5. MAAAN, you got the worst type of client... I run away from them, I say thanks for interest, but I don't think our cooperation will be productive. If work's under $4000 it is just not worth dealing with them Send her a design questionnaire before you start any design... Can you refund her if she continues to be non-constructive? Me personally,if I'd have money to refund, I'd stop working with her, honestly. I had too much drama already And do charge her hourly
  6. Worked! Thanks a bunch
  7. You mean longtailvideo.com? I headed there, but there seem to be players only for video not MP3s? Am I supposed to use this: http://www.longtailvideo.com/players/jw-wmv-player/?
  8. I know about all that, but it's the client that wants to have it. So can someone direct me to some script or...?
  9. Tell me about it Clients wants it hidden
  10. Is the player hidden?
  11. OK, so this is a banal question.. an I'm a lil' embarassed to ask, but... how exactly you add a background sound to the website? I found one JavaScript that works both on IE and Firefox (and I need to have it working on as many browsers as possible), however seems like it supports only .mid files. Is having a .mid sound totally essential? I'd prefer MP3s, is there any script that supports that?
  12. So it turns out that I totally misunderstood my client and I thought that in 3D gallery he wished to have, one sentence as a caption would be enough. However it turns out that the whole biography was supposed to be displaying under a photo. I was looking all day yesterday for solutions, so I'll address you now. Preferrably the script is supposed to be 3D (we rrreally prefer that) and when a visitor clicks on the photo instead of photo just enlarging upon clicking on it, there has to be a place for long text under it. CMS driven thingies are verry preferred as well. If no Flash scripts like that, I'm willing to work with other languages. Of course, I am willing to pay for what I want, if it's necessary.
  13. Well... at noostyle: I'm afraid my client will be looking for a much easier system for updating the site I once made a mistake of setting up a website that required such an amount of work and the buyer spread the word that my sites are very hard to update I will look into Wordpress thingy! It fulfills my requirements for this project Thanks! Other suggestions welcomed
  14. So I just learned how to make custom Joomla templates and today I will probably close the deal with my client owning hand-crafted greeting cards business when I will be able to make use of what I leaned... So now I know how to make nice websites with content management but I am scared to implement that bit of eCommerce to it. It will be a small site, hand-crafted greeting cards, so there will be 4-5 subpages only. And on one subpage products will be sold. However my client would need to have an option to add subcategories etc. - it's just all that will be on that one "Offer" page. Is Joomla good choice for such a project? Don't view it as an eCommerce store. Normal web site with just selling cards on one page. It can be done with Joomla, can't it? I would need to download some plugin, right? I am thinking about Joomla, because the whole website needs to have content management, not just that eCommerce page. I was about to go with PageLime, but today when I heard that the client wants to also sell some things... Joomla crossed my mind... but I don't really know is that a good choice, I'm asking you What about Magento? Will be very grateful for tips
  15. I found myself in an awkward situation lately... I just finished a web site and biz cards for one of my clients and... she was a pleasure to work with, however she appears to be very undecided person, she wants this and that element here just to state later that she wants it there. Now, I don't have a problem with that, because in my contract is clearly stated that after finished work 3 revisions are available and all the extra work will be charged normally with hourly rate. She answered 'ahh, I forgot, sorry' the first time when I pointed out this out, however she keeps asking me for changes and last updates were very quick to do, 3 minutes tops work, so I went ahead and did it. However in the same e-mail when she asked for them, she said that she ought not to pay fees for changes considering the number of referrals she has given me. So did she have a hidden agenda? Now, indeed in one week I got 3 new clients and I sense that it's not over yet... I didn't have a chance to reply to the e-mail, b/c in the next one she thanked me for changes, but now I'm thinking... should I reward her some way if I close? I deeply appreciate it, but all the clients pay me for maintenance, it would be a bit unfair. And in general, do YOU reward your clients for referrals in any way besides just saying "nice to hear, thank you"? I'm really curious.
