  1. oops. Forgot in the shorthand format that you could do both image and color. (Sorry, web-rookie! I'll keep my mouth shut and remember that I'm learning here, too!) I just thought my info would help. Thanks for the great tip ElanMan about specifying the % and then em throughout site. Never knew that. This kind of help is exactly why I joined this forum! ps. GREAT article about the one day website on your site! I need to pass that along to clients "waiting" for their websites to appear like "magic"!
  2. You need to have url('images/body-bg.gif') top center repeat-x; (I m referring to the ' ' around the file name) I don't think you can have the "white" in there with the image(?). I think it's one or the other(image or bg-color) maybe someone can clear that up. I'm no pro. You may also want to use em for font size instead of % so folks can re-size text. Hope that helped!
  3. Thanks, I'll give that a look! I've read a bit on WordPress before when I was researching CMS, but will look again at ALL it's features.
  4. I am getting involved with a site that wants users to be able to review a vendor such as on yelp.com and wondering if anyone knows of a good php script or software for adding this feature? Doesn't have to be free. Mainly my client wants users to be able to rate vendors by a star system(or customizable graphic) AND write actual review text as well. My client would have the admin access to review/edit each review submitted. I hand code everything, but am still learning php/mysql so writing one may be difficult at this point. Is this a case where I'm best to use pre-made software out there or do I try to write my own? (or am I over my head?) I apologize if this has been posted, I was unsuccessful in finding a thread! thanks!
  5. Hello to everyone. My name is Randy. I am a new member here. (hope this is posted in right spot or I am off to a bad start) I have just completed my previous job of being a self-employed woodworker/custom furniture maker for almost 17 years. I am officially out of that line of work as of today! In the process of running that business and others I had made some websites for myself with Yahoo's Site Builder which is, of course, very easy to do but extremely limited. As time went on, many friends started asking me to build them sites. I am happy to say I no longer use any drag and drop software. I hand code every site in notepad thanks to tutorials from w3schools, tizag and others. As much as I have tried every option(Nvu, dreamweaver a bit, etc), I can't seem to find the same flexibility as I have with such a simple program! Hey, it all just generates code in the end, right? Anyhow, I am happy to be back to the enjoyment of computer programming which is something I last had when I was 16 years old on my Texas Instruments TI-99.($10 on e-bay to this day!) I am a full time web designer! I have a decent understanding of xhtml, css, dhtml, and cut and paste stuff from javascript, etc. I am now on to PHP. I get the concept but have a long way to go. Anyhow, I have many sites to build and some will be quite large so I look forward to learning from all of you in the future! What amazes me is that I spend equal time learning graphics software and learning the coding. BTW - I use Draw Plus X2 from Serif to lay out all my site graphics and have found it a great program for the money. Much easier than photoshop, but not as powerful. Does get the job done though with image optimizer on export and all. (bad to plug things?) Other than that, I am a performing musician and still freelance with furniture making. I look forward to being a part of this site and, someday, hope to have valued input for others! Thanks for getting to know me a bit! randy
