  1. Thanks a lot for your response. I'm not fussed about keeping the website, it was very outdated in any case and it is a local service based business with a full diary for the next 2 months, so losing the Google ranking won't affect us in the grand scheme of things. If I am the registered owner of the domain, do you know how would I go about regaining control? The domain was set up with privacy so there is no information on Who Is to prove whether he input my details as the owner or not, but at the time we were friends so I assume this would be the case. Thanks again.
  2. Hello, I don't want to make this lengthy, due to my lack of technical knowledge it is destined to be a short story in any case. Many years ago - Good friends with a website designer/developer who purchased my domain name (presumably registering it in my details) and built my website. A few years ago - Fell out with said 'professional' due to personal reasons but he continued to host all of my domains and websites, as this was easier than regaining contact and transferring everything over to myself when I am not overly technical in knowing what to do. A few months ago - Received an outrageous invoice for domain renewals and other services we never asked for with massively inflated costs. We ignored the invoice without making payment. He never chased it up presumably due to our lack of communication with our ended relationship being on bad terms. Now - Person in question claims he is no longer working on websites and is shutting down his servers in the next couple of days that our domain, website and email addresses are hosted on. We have created a new website and email address under a different domain as we simply can't operate without this, and exported all of our emails into .mbox files to put on the new server. Of course, we will lose any google rankings etc built up over the past 2 decades but that is collateral damage. My question is - Once he closes down these servers and hosting accounts, what happens to my domain? He will not transfer it to us. Is it lost in the abyss? So far as I'm aware it still has at least a year until it needs renewing. We will continue to operate as usual under the new domain and get over the transition period, but it would certainly be nice to have our #1 domain choice in our own hands down the line. Any advice is appreciated!
  3. Here is another test I just did, with it taking over 15 seconds! Something not right here it seems and the content doesn't appear to be related to the issue at all...
  4. Thanks guys. I haven’t purposely used anything called iconmoon so I’m guessing it must be part of the theme? I don’t feel like that’s a primary cause of it loading up slow when I haven’t visited the site for a while though, as the issue was there even before I had any content on the homepage. So it sounds like it could potentially be more of a server issue. Any recommended hosts for shared hosting? As I’m doing it just as a hobby I obviously don’t want the cost of the dedicated Host packages! Thanks ?
  5. Hi Guys, Let me start by declaring that I'm just a kid trying to self teach myself wordpress, simply because I enjoy it as a hobby. This is my first ever website, so constructive criticism in easy-to-understand terms is welcome! I have made a website advertising myself as a web developer. Let me remind you I'm just doing this as a hobby for friends and family - so don't expect the website to be anywhere near the standard of a professional designer!!! I think I have just about finished the website, however there are a couple of issues that I would like to clear up that I don't understand. Website: magnifiweb.co.uk 1. When I am on the website and switching to and from the different navigation pages it loads very quickly. However, when I haven't been on the website for a few hours and load it up by typing 'magnifiweb.co.uk' into the URL, it can take at least 5 seconds to load the home page. I have used some speed test websites like Pingdom, and it says that the wait time is mainly down to the URL 'waiting'. I have absolutely no redirects set up to slow this process down, so can't understand why only sometimes it can take this long to load. 2. Using the same Pingdom speed test website (see attached image), there is an image called 'logooriginalwhitebg150px-150x150.jpg' I have circled this in red. This is an OLD image that I decided to remove from my Wordpress media library and and not use anymore. I navigated to the location of this image in my File Manager in Cpanel and deleted it from the folder as well - but for some reason it keeps coming back! Every time I go and check that folder in cpanel the same image has come back on it's own. Very frustrating. Any advice on these matters is greatly appreciated!
