Use the old good tags and attributes; <h1>, alt="", title="". Make good structured content with a lot of words that is related to your site and which people search for. Google like good pagerank, and things like that also. Cuil for example is a bit different. I dont know the strategies for Cuil, but i think they focuse on good content. Set links on your pages to your home page. For example; "Back to My Site" on your "About me"-site. Just an example. Make good titles and keywords. Good luck!

As steammultimedia said, IE6 can't handle PNG. Because I hate Gif I either use a png fix for ie, you can find it here: http://www.twinhelix.com/css/iepngfix/. Or make the background behind the transparent object as the bg on your site. Thats the easiest way to fix it.
