  1. Use the old good tags and attributes; <h1>, alt="", title="". Make good structured content with a lot of words that is related to your site and which people search for. Google like good pagerank, and things like that also. Cuil for example is a bit different. I dont know the strategies for Cuil, but i think they focuse on good content. Set links on your pages to your home page. For example; "Back to My Site" on your "About me"-site. Just an example. Make good titles and keywords. Good luck!
  2. Thats the best site to learn it. You can try lighbox2 as Dizi said or you can try the first version.
  3. As steammultimedia said, IE6 can't handle PNG. Because I hate Gif I either use a png fix for ie, you can find it here: http://www.twinhelix.com/css/iepngfix/. Or make the background behind the transparent object as the bg on your site. Thats the easiest way to fix it.
