Maybe you can create a texture for the background. In this way you don't add any color but you just make it a little different.

I like the website, you really made something different and I really appreciate your website style. I got a little upset because I didn't know where to go. It happened to me that someone wanted a very cool website in a futuristic style, with sound effects, stars, planets, etc, and the final result was a total mess. Sometimes while we make websites we don't consider what the user really focus on. A long way to say...simple things sometimes are better.

Hi! I am Phenix and I am Italian, so I apologize now for my horrible English I moved to USA after I got married last year. I started making websites 10 years ago, using Front Page and I never stopped. From about a year I am working on Flash, but only basic stuff. I already made few websites some of them are on my portfolio at www.phenixwebistes.com and I have also a Blog where I write what is in my head...which is not easy to explain sometimes. Some of you will wonder why is Phenix and not Phoenix, well...my dictionary says that's how you guys in UK spell it. If that's not true then I am in troubles I am really taking my love for the web design pretty seriously, I need someone to tell me what is wrong, and where I can do better. I hope you guys can help me and send me critics, because that's what I need... Have a nice day!
